Condolences

Condolence From: Jack Ashwood
Condolence: I have fond memories of Mrs. Hancock when I was growing up in the 1940's on the Horticultural Experiment Station. As pre-schoolers, my friends and I would gather round her while she entertained us by singing nursery rhymes, my favourite being "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly." It had such an impact on me that many years later I sang it to my children and grand children.

Condolence From: Marjory Reitmsa-Street
Condolence: Harry Street and I met Molly in 1989 when we worked at the School of Social Work of Laurentian University in Sudbury; Harry as Field Work Coordinator, and I as an Associate Professor. We were warmed by her delight in living; her warm curiosity about people; and her passionate commitment to social work and justice, expressed in practical ways, and in writing. Fortunate we are to have known her, and to have shared many conversations, letters, and visits.

Condolence: Molly was my first supervisor at FACS of Niagara when as a new graduate in 1966 she patiently mentored me. She was a wonderful, kind and dedicated professional. My condolences to her family. She is a shining example to all of a life well-lived. I am fortunate to have known her.

Condolence From: Judy Kosmerly
Condolence: My deepest sympathy to Molly's family on your loss. I was a student of Molly's when she first started teaching at the School of Social Work at LU many years ago now. I always appreciated that she taught us the practical pieces that went with being a social worker - how to arrange your office to be welcoming to clients; to ALWAYS have a box of kleenex available; and so on. These teachings stayed with me, as I'm sure they did with other students. Molly was fiercely compassionate and she passed on her passion for a caring world to the students that she taught. Although she is no longer here, her legacy will live on.

Condolence: Molly was a Great Lady, a respected leader, teacher and mentor for generations of social justice activists. I was fortunate to benefit from her wisdom, humour and friendship. She created a strong legacy of resistance and hope for all of us. Thank you Molly. Rest in well deserved peace.

Condolence From: Joan Kuyek
Condolence: I remember Molly particularly for our work together in the Mending Circle which she helped instigate during the Gulf War. For over six years, our small circle of women met almost every Sunday morning to work on issues of peace, violence and bullying, and to support each other in taking these issues to the larger Sudbury community. "Stop shoulding on yourself" she would say. She was a passionate advocate for social justice and peace, and we are all better for her energy and presence. Thank you, Molly.
