The family announces with great sorrow his passing in Sudbury, Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband of Diane (née Carrière) Mayer of Noëlville. Predeceased by his father Oscar and his mother Rose-Anna (née Rochon) Mayer. Loving father of Nicole McDonald (Peter) and Dr. Carole Mayer (George Baldan) both of Sudbury. Predeceased by ``bébé Mayer``. Dear brother of Roland Mayer (Viny) of Noëlville, Thérèse Jérôme (Albert) of Sudbury, Lucille Bondy (late Donald) of Windsor and Yvonne Commons (Brian) of Brampton. Predeceased by his brothers and sisters Roger (late Lilianne), Ulysse (late Thérèse), Fernande (late Donald), Gérard (late June), Vivianne (late Hector), Sr. Jeannine (f.d.l.s.), Raymond , Richard (Colette) and Robert. Cherished grandfather of Andrew McDonald (Claudie) of Sudbury, Daniel Aubut of Toronto, Kayla McDonald (Brendan Mirka) of Ottawa and great-grandfather of Marguerite. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. As a young man he worked for Jean’s Home Hardware, he later acquired his businesses Silvr’y Moon Lodge and Mayer Bus Line; he was a driver education instructor for many years. Donald was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, council 4435, Noëlville. A dedicated member of his community, he served on many committees including the Administration Board of the Cooperative Funeral Home. Donald was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed his time spent with the Beaver Hunting Club in Noëlville. He also loved to sing and play the harmonica but was happiest when surrounded by his family. The family will receive relatives and friends at the St-David`s Parish Hall, Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St-David’s Church, Noëlville. Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Northern Cancer Foundation can be made by cheque or online, or to the St-David’s Church (by cheque only).
