Obituary for Hermine Tillich (Christen)

It is with great sorrow that the family announces Hermine’s passing in Chelmsford on Friday, August 11th, 2017 at the age of 96 years. Predeceased by her parents Eduard Christen and Hermine Christen (née Schmaus). Wife of the late Andreas Tillich. Loving mother of Ewald (late Roberta) and Helga (late John). Cherished grandmother of Trina (Brad), Sonja (Peter),Christa (Robert) and great-grandmother of Taylor, Ryan, Peter and Nathan. Dear sister of Josephine, Herta and Adi. Sadly missed by her great-grandnephew Bernhard. Hermine (Oma) will be missed by many other great-grand nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Oma came to Canada in 1956 with her family and settled on a farm in Chelmsford. She was an excellent cook, baker and assisted her husband in his many restaurant ventures. Her hands were never idle. Her passions were farming, sewing knitting and creating handcrafted gifts for her children and grandchildren. Her home was a gathering place for family and friends at festivities throughout the year where many European and Canadian friends were always welcome. Her blue eyes, warm smile, tenacity and vibrant personality will always be remembered. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at St-Gabriel Villa and York Extendicare. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Cooperative Funeral Home, 4691 R.R. 15, Chelmsford on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 from 10-12 pm. Funeral service to follow at 12 pm in the funeral home chapel. Donations can be made by cheque to Canadian Red Cross or St-Gabriel Villa. www.cooperativefuneralhome.ca
